What this policy covers

This Privacy Policy describes how DraftCounsel collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use our platform. It applies to all users of draftcounsel.com, including attorneys, paralegals, and other law firm staff.

Information we collect

Account information

When you create an account, we collect your email address. If you subscribe to a paid plan, our payment processor (Stripe) collects your name and billing information on our behalf. We receive confirmation of payment status but do not store full payment card details.

Documents and matter content you upload

To use DraftCounsel, you upload Word templates and matter source documents (such as pleadings, intake forms, and prior filings). These files are stored securely and used solely to provide the drafting service you request. DraftCounsel personnel do not routinely access, read, or review the contents of your uploaded documents or generated drafts.

Usage and technical data

We collect standard technical information to operate and improve the platform, including log data, job status records, storage usage, error reports, and authentication events. This information does not include the substantive content of your documents.

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our marketing pages. This collects anonymized usage data such as page views and session duration. We do not use tracking cookies inside the authenticated application. You may opt out of Google Analytics by using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and improve the DraftCounsel platform
  • Authenticate your account and manage your subscription
  • Process your document drafting requests
  • Respond to support requests and diagnose technical issues
  • Send transactional emails related to your account
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your uploaded documents or matter content to train AI models.

Document confidentiality

DraftCounsel is designed for use by legal professionals handling confidential client matter information. We take the following approach to document confidentiality:

  • No routine content access. DraftCounsel personnel do not access the contents of your uploaded source documents, generated drafts, or extracted facts in the ordinary course of operating the platform.
  • No AI training on your data. Your documents and matter content are not used to train, fine-tune, or improve any AI or machine learning models.
  • Support access is limited. If you contact us for technical support involving a specific document or job, any access to related content requires your explicit authorization and is limited in scope and duration.
  • Your data belongs to you. You retain all rights to your uploaded documents and generated outputs. DraftCounsel does not claim any ownership over your content.

How we store and protect your data

Your files are stored using Supabase, a secure cloud infrastructure provider. All data is encrypted in transit using TLS and encrypted at rest. Access to storage is controlled by row-level security policies that restrict each user to their own workspace data.

We use private storage buckets for all uploaded and generated documents. Files are not publicly accessible. Access requires authentication.

Third-party subprocessors

We use the following third-party services to operate DraftCounsel:

  • Supabase — database and file storage
  • Anthropic — AI language model for document analysis and drafting
  • Stripe — payment processing
  • Vercel — application hosting and deployment
  • Google Analytics — anonymized marketing site analytics

Each subprocessor is subject to its own privacy and security obligations. We select subprocessors that maintain appropriate data protection standards.

Please note that Anthropic processes document content as part of the AI drafting service. Anthropic's API usage policies prohibit using submitted data to train models. You can review Anthropic's privacy practices at anthropic.com/privacy.

Data retention

We retain your account information and uploaded files for as long as your account is active. If you close your account, we will delete your data within 30 days, except where retention is required by applicable law or for legitimate business purposes such as resolving disputes.

You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at rio@draftcounsel.com.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your account and data
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Opt out of non-essential communications

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at rio@draftcounsel.com.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a notice in the application. Continued use of DraftCounsel after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
